Bio
This journal is a place for me to keep a semi-public record of my esoteric endeavours, in particular my alchemical work.

About myself:
I am a graduate student and tutor in the field of Religious Studies (focussing on the intersection of race, religion and extremism, if you are curious) and have been knocking around esoteric circles since the late 1980s. My own religious/spiritual/philosophical views have been profoundly influenced by modern Hermeticism. Over the years I have been involved with a number of esoteric groups and societies, the most important and well known of which are Martinism, Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry, though currently I only retain membership in Freemasonry, in which I am a Past Master of my lodge. I have also formed around me a small group of university pagans who are interested in a more serious approach to occultism than crystal fondling and candle-burning. On a more personal level, I have a girlfriend whom I am ridiculously in love with and who is a pagan.

About this journal:
I have been mildly interested in alchemy for quite a while (along with all the Hermetic arts) and for the past ten or so years I have had a friend and mentor whose primary focus is alchemy. However, despite knowing him for a goodly length of time it is only recently that I have found myself in a position to study alchemy seriously with him- and he is the kind of guy that the only way to study with him is to study seriously, he does not suffer fools nor time wasters. So, the stars were right and I got my arse into gear. The alchemy he teaches is primarily lab alchemy, that is to say he is working towards a physical Philosophers Stone, but ancillary to that he teaches a sophisticated spiritual alchemical processes as well and I am working with him on both programmes.

As far as alchemy is concerned, I am very, very much a rank beginner and am starting from first principles, though, fortunately, I am a little bit more knowledgeable about other aspects of the Hermetic arts.

What is the point of the journal?:
Apart from post-modern exhibitionism, I want to use this journal to record what I am doing- both as an accompaniment and expansion to my paper lab notebook (both for my own sake and possibly, conceivably, potentially it might be of help to other rank beginners)and there is the chance I might meet some other alchemically minded folk and see what they are up to.

Anyway, here is my journal
